A truck driver has been charged over a crash on a highway in Victoria that killed a South Australian woman.

A car and truck collided just after 1pm on Tuesday on the Maroondah Hwy in Coldstream.

Three people were in the car, including a 62-year-old woman from South Australia, who died at the scene.

The driver of the car, a 63-year-old man from Essendon, was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The second passenger, a 62-year-old man, also from South Australia, had non-life-threatening injuries.

A 42-year-old man from Frankston, who was driving the truck, was uninjured.

On Wednesday, he was charged with dangerous driving causing death.

He will appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
